Overview:
The CNM ensures the delivery of quality patient care to a defined group of patients; maintains staffing at an appropriate level; assures adequate skills and abilities to meet patient problems; maintains financial control of unit; collaborates and maintains open communication with medical staff, administration, and staff; monitors appropriate utilization of resources in the provision of care; assures regulations and standards are met. The CNM is responsible for the quality of care of patients; delegates appropriately and directs staff in the delivery of care; assumes responsibility for the appropriate utilization of resources; collaborates with medical staff and others in the provision of care; demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with others in communication and problem resolution; is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow co-workers; plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age specific needs; plans and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs, (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities and cultures); plan and provide professional nursing care for patients by assuring appropriate and effective pain management; assess, report, and assist any patients that present with evidence of abuse and/or neglect; and supports the mission of Mercy Hospital. Participates on nursing committees as assigned. Accountable for assigned units. Co-workers are expected to abide by Mercy Hospital safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers. Supervises. All staff assigned to unit. NOTE: Orientation and training are experience specific. Competent to provide nursing services to the age of the specific population of assigned areas. See Age-Appropriate Care for Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric Patients policy. Current CPR Certification is a required element to maintain the job position. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. BSN or complete in the next 2 years (already enrolled if possible).
- Licensure: Current licensure by the State Board of Nursing in the applicable state of practice.
- Experience: Four (4) years of experience in clinical specialty or related area. Able to apply principles of management, co-worker supervision, teaching, performance improvement, and budget. Basic computer skills including data entry, Windows, and MS Office are required.
- Certifications: BLS; NRP
- Other: To ensure patient safety, it is mandatory that all licensed coworkers who provide direct patient care pass a medication and math competency test before assuming medication administration responsibilities. This exam will cover knowledge of the actions and side effects of commonly used drugs along with math regarding correct dosages and IV problems.
- Preferred Education: BS/MS preferred.
- Preferred Experience: At least 2 years of supervisory or management experience. Preferred Certifications: PALS
